Anton’s letter to clients announcing his retirement
This is a lightly edited version of the email Anton sent to clients on 14 September, 2022
25 years after founding IML I will be retiring from the company in March 2023, although I will be staying on as a consultant until June 2023 to ensure a smooth hand over.
First of all, I would like to thank all the clients who have supported IML through what was a very eventful 25 years – without you I would not have been given the opportunity to do what I was passionate about every day.
I started IML in 1998 with the purpose of creating a research-driven value fund manager that was very focussed on the needs of our clients. We have always aimed to build portfolios of quality Australian equities that deliver reasonable capital growth and consistent income over the long-term, whilst experiencing less volatility than the overall market – and I believe we have successfully delivered on this objective over the last 25 years.
I have been planning my retirement with the IML leadership team for some time. Over the last ten years the various IML portfolio managers have taken over the responsibility for the management of the majority of our client funds. With my role having been to ensure funds continued to be managed with the same ‘quality and value’ approach to investing as from IML’s inception in 1998.
All of IML’s funds will continue to be managed by the experienced team of portfolio managers who have all been working at IML for over a decade and who are well known to all of you. Simon Conn, who joined me at IML on day one in 1998, will continue to lead the small cap team. Hugh Giddy will remain Head of Research and continue to lead the large cap team along with Portfolio Managers Daniel Moore and Michael O’Neill, who all joined IML in 2010.
I wish you all the best for the future and thank you once again for your support.
